We have made an interview with the goalkeeper and one of the leaders of the Torpedo team, Viktor Kornyakov.
— Viktor, how do you find the tournament? Is everything going well with your team?
— The tournament is excellent, there are no problems in domestic terms. The organisers made the competitions in a “Bubble” format — the players, referees and staff are isolated from the outside world, and the logistics are well thought out.
And in terms of the game of our team, the guys are trying, but have not yet reached the peak of form and understanding. To tell the truth, all the teams are equal and there are no clear favourites. Even the Uralets starting to have problems, as the other clubs are noticeably picking up their teamwork.
— It is true that the Uralets are not taking points so easily any more, but nevertheless they are still the leaders and favourites of the tournament. Who do you think can really compete with them?
— At least three teams are ready to join the fight for the championship, they are both Armeets, Torpedo, and Mogilev has been showing a high level for several games. There will be no clear favorite. It seems to me.
— Who could you name among your other goalkeepers in other teams?
— Well, I like the game of Evgeniy Vorobiev. Mogilev`s goalkeeper Vlad Shamko helps his team a lot.
— You are an experienced short hockey player. What attracts you to this format? And how long have you been playing?
— I will start with the second part of the question. I’ve been playing short hockey for about a year now. I started in the first professional Moscow Pro League. There, of course, was a slightly different tournament format, but the level of the game was very high. It was also nice to know that I was among those who played in the pandemic and the whole world was watching. That tournament in general has become a cult one. I like that format for everyone. There is a lot of dynamics, the goalkeeper is always in the game and on high concentration. And mostly important, it’s not classic ice hockey, it’s another sport. And here are other leaders. It’s also interesting because we’re standing at the origins. We’re building history. That’s cool! And I really hope to play in the first ever World Shorty Hockey Championship. It’s gonna be an amazing event. I’m telling you!
